A student staring at a worksheet can now point the Google app’s Lens camera at the problem and ask for help without typing it out. Google is rolling out a set of study features across Search and Gemini, including a dedicated student hub, interactive visuals, custom quizzes and AI-generated study documents.

The new Gemini hub is designed as a single place for the basics of revision: a study notebook, flashcards and practice quizzes. Notebooks can now hold graphs and images, and Gemini can add test dates and deadlines to Google Calendar from a syllabus. Search handles the more immediate tasks, generating quizzes on subjects from science and mathematics to humanities and foreign languages, or turning uploaded PDFs, slides and photographed notes into a one-page summary.

The mechanism is becoming more visual. A Search query about the pH scale can produce an interactive explanation, then adapt it to a follow-up request such as plotting citrus fruits. Gemini can also generate functional 3D simulations, including a DNA structure that users can rotate and zoom into. Google is adding Deep Research to Gemini Live, allowing a multi-step report to run in the background while the user closes the chat or locks the phone, followed by a notification and a voice discussion.

And what does that change in practice? Students get several ways to move from confusion to action: a photo can trigger an explanation, notes can become a compact study document, and a topic can become an interactive quiz or simulation. That could reduce the friction of preparing for a test, especially when material is spread across handwritten notes, slides and worksheets.

The rollout is not uniform. Lens’ new learning experience is expected in the coming weeks, while other features are being introduced now. Eligible students in the US can receive one year of Google AI Pro with 5TB of storage and higher Gemini usage limits; students outside the US are offered Google AI Plus with 400GB of storage and lower limits. Google’s tools are now positioned against OpenAI and education services such as Knowt and Gauth.
