The Tai 7 retains its squared-off styling: it is nearly five metres long, with a side-hinged tailgate and a tall, upright body. The new Tai 7 DM Long-Range Edition arrives with a more practical promise than its silhouette suggests: its plug-in hybrid system can now deliver up to 315 km of official CLTC battery-only range. The starting price is 195,800 yuan.

The upgrade is concentrated inside the battery pack. Both versions use a 50-kWh BYD Blade Battery, replacing the 26.6-kWh and 35.6-kWh packs offered previously. The rear-wheel-drive Max version reaches 315 km on the CLTC test cycle; the four-wheel-drive Ultra version reaches 300 km. Earlier Tai 7 DM variants were rated between 135 km and 200 km on electricity alone. With petrol still available, the two new versions have combined CLTC ranges of 1,470 km and 1,310 km.

Charging improves too. Maximum power rises from 73 kW to 158 kW, and the stated time to charge from 30% to 80% falls to 13.9 minutes. That is a meaningful improvement for a plug-in hybrid intended to be driven electrically more often. But 爱范儿 notes that Fang Cheng Bao has not brought the Tai 7 EV’s flash-charging system to this DM version, so the bigger battery does not come with the family’s most advanced replenishment technology.

The rest of the formula changes less. A 1.5T engine produces up to 115 kW; the single-motor version reaches 200 kW, while the dual-motor version reaches 360 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The vehicle keeps its family-SUV positioning, with a 15.6-inch central screen, a 201L front trunk and the DiSus-C intelligent damping body-control system. The 315-km Max can also add BYD’s LiDAR-based God’s Eye B driver-assistance system for 12,000 yuan.

So what changes in practice? For owners with home charging and daily trips of roughly 30 to 40 km, the new battery could cover much of a week’s city driving and reduce charging frequency, while the petrol engine remains a fallback for longer trips. The move builds on a model that CnEVPost says sold 20,320 units in July and whose cumulative sales had exceeded 200,000 units by July. The new version therefore extends an established family SUV toward electric-first daily use without giving up long-distance flexibility.
