Robots construct more than 65 homes in planned Colorado district

A planned 55-acre development in Salida, Colorado, is putting robotic construction to work across a residential community rather than a single demonstration home. Called Cleora, it is expected to include more than 65 homes built with technology from RIC Robotics, with True North serving as the 3D-printing contractor.

Two autonomous RIC printing systems are currently operating across the site. True North’s first model home is under construction, and its shell is expected to be completed this month. The developers plan to expand production gradually while assessing how the systems perform at community scale, so the project has not yet established a completed neighborhood or proven final economics.

The test extends beyond printing walls. Cleora is intended to combine robotic homebuilding with infrastructure managed through its own metropolitan district, including water treatment, utilities, recreation, commercial facilities, and other essential services. A partnership with Colorado Mountain College will give students hands-on experience with construction robots, 3D-printing systems, and digital design software, with future training programs and certifications expected to support emerging construction roles.

If the deployment performs as intended, it could give developers a way to study robotic construction across a real neighborhood, including construction efficiency, workforce development, architectural variety, cost control, and long-term community growth. Cleora’s developers say the aim is to show that robotic construction can move beyond prototypes and support entire neighborhoods.
