Fairphone 6+ brings a repairable phone to US buyers

A US buyer can finally order a Fairphone from Fairphone itself. The Fairphone 6+ costs $649.99, is unlocked, and supports T-Mobile and AT&T; it is sold through Fairphone’s website and is coming to Amazon US. The Dutch company’s previous US route ran through Murena, whose phones used the de-Googled /e/OS version of Android and sold last year’s Fairphone 6 for $899.

The new phone is an incremental hardware update, not a reinvention. It uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and raises memory to 12GB of RAM, while retaining a 6.31-inch OLED display, 256GB of storage with microSD expansion, and a 4,415mAh battery. It ships with standard Android 16 and Google services. The camera system includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 32-megapixel selfie camera; TechCrunch expects daylight results to be adequate but says low-light performance may decline.

The physical design is where Fairphone’s approach becomes tangible. Two screws open the rear panel, and one Torx T5 screwdriver can be used to replace the battery, cameras, USB-C port, display and other parts. There are 12 user-replaceable components in total. Official replacements range from $7.99 for a SIM tray to $89.99 for a display. The trade-off is an IP55 rating: the phone can handle splashes, but not full submersion.

So what changes in practice? A cracked display, aging battery or damaged charging port does not automatically end the phone’s useful life. US owners can buy the replacement parts directly, and Fairphone promises a five-year warranty plus software support until 2033. New Atlas reports the update period as 2032, while other reports say 2033. Fairphone also puts the device’s carbon footprint at 30 kg of CO2e per phone manufactured, though the figures come from the company itself.

The 6+ arrives in Forest Green, Horizon Black and Cobalt Blue, with modular accessories such as a lanyard, card holder and finger loop. Its $649.99 price buys midrange hardware that rivals may match or undercut; the distinct purchase is the repair path. For Americans, the notable shift is that a repairable phone with ordinary Android and Google services is now available through a direct channel, rather than through a modified software ecosystem.
