Gaon Cable targets AI data centers with about 30 percent less friction

At Gaon Cable’s Gunpo facility in Gyeonggi Province, the key change sits on the outside of a power cable. The maker says its improved outer sheath cuts installation friction by about 30 percent compared with conventional products, as it targets the AI data-center power-infrastructure market.

That matters because distribution cables occupy specific sections of a data center depending on its design and construction requirements. As facilities grow larger and more power-intensive, Gaon Cable says products that simplify installation can extend the cable-pulling distance by up to 45 percent, while reducing labor requirements and construction costs.

The cables already have an industrial foothold. Gaon Cable first supplied them to a North American semiconductor plant last year and has since expanded their use to AI data centers. The company holds a patent for the core material technology and says similar cables are made by only a limited number of manufacturers in North America and Europe.

Gaon Cable is broadening its power portfolio through technology from its parent, LS Cable & System. It supplies bus ducts to US companies and AI cloud service providers, low-voltage cables for power plants, and medium-voltage cables through its US subsidiary to connect substations with AI data-center complexes.

For builders, concretely, the promise is fewer installation constraints: longer cable pulls could mean less labor and lower construction costs at large industrial facilities. Those figures are Gaon Cable’s claims.
