On August 15, on the Guiyang course, the GAC Aion N60 scored 117.81 points among 18 participating vehicles, out of a maximum of 120, with zero interventions throughout the qualifier. The result at the Guiyang stop of the second intelligent-driving competition organized by First Electric Network created a striking contrast: a vehicle with a top-trim price in the 120,000-yuan range set a record since the competition began 30 stops ago, despite having unremarkable hardware—a Qualcomm 8650 domain controller, about 200 TOPS of computing power, one 192-line lidar and two 4D millimeter-wave radars. Its specifications were not exceptional among the participating vehicles.
过去,人们习惯把更大的模型、更高的TOPS和更多线数的激光雷达,直接等同于更强的智驾。N60背后的团队给出的答案,是把资源用法换了:端到端方案把感知、预测、规划放进同一个网络,从传感器输入直接生成车辆轨迹;文远知行用于L4 Robotaxi的模型,再通过蒸馏压缩成适配约200 TOPS的小模型。模型变小,并不意味着能力按同样比例消失,但这也不代表小模型会优于更高算力平台上的大模型。
In the past, people have tended to equate larger models, higher TOPS figures and lidars with more lines directly with stronger intelligent driving. The team behind the N60 offers a different answer: change how the resources are used. The end-to-end approach puts perception, prediction and planning into the same network, generating vehicle trajectories directly from sensor inputs. WeRide’s model for L4 Robotaxis was distilled and compressed into a smaller model suited to roughly 200 TOPS. A smaller model does not mean its capabilities disappear in the same proportion, but that does not mean a small model will outperform a large model running on a higher-computing-power platform.
算力只是预算,能有多少真正变成驾驶能力,还取决于模型压缩、算子支持、内存访问、异构调度和软件部署。广汽最终选择高通8650后,与文远知行、高通一起调动NPU、CPU和GPU,走的是“用更重的软件和工程,换更低硬件成本”的路线。数据也不只看数量:文远知行的Robotaxi车队由同一套系统驾驶,行为更集中,便于后处理;过去十年运营积累的极端情况,还能借助Genesis云端世界模型重新进入仿真。
Computing power is only a budget. How much of it is actually converted into driving capability also depends on model compression, operator support, memory access, heterogeneous scheduling and software deployment. After ultimately choosing the Qualcomm 8650, GAC worked with WeRide and Qualcomm to mobilize the NPU, CPU and GPU, pursuing a strategy of “using heavier software and engineering to trade for lower hardware costs.” Data is not just about volume, either: WeRide’s Robotaxi fleet is driven by the same system, producing more consistent behavior that is easier to process afterward. Extreme cases accumulated through a decade of operations can also be brought back into simulation through the Genesis cloud-based world model.
比赛并没有把所有问题抹平。N60此前几站也曾失败,贵阳站的三点式掉头中,小车身更容易腾挪,实时交通和运气也占了一部分因素。端到端方案在城区复杂博弈和施工窄路上表现更从容,却不一定在高速场景同样出色;文远知行目前靠持续迭代修补停止线与红绿灯对应、右转并入目标车道等问题,2.3.0版本已优化高速,下一版预计下个月更新。
The competition did not erase every problem. The N60 had also failed at several previous stops, while its smaller body made it easier to maneuver through the three-point turns in Guiyang; live traffic and luck also played a role. The end-to-end approach is more composed in complex urban interactions and narrow roads affected by construction, but it is not necessarily as strong in highway scenarios. WeRide is currently addressing issues such as matching stop lines with traffic lights and merging into the target lane when turning right through continuous iteration. Version 2.3.0 has optimized highway driving, and the next version is expected to be released next month.
具体来说,10万级消费者得到的不是一辆全面压缩的20多万元汽车,而是可以把预算集中在智驾上的取舍。供应链降价降低了摄像头、激光雷达、毫米波雷达和芯片单位算力的成本,平台化则让同一套传感器、域控、软件适配、测试和OTA能力跨车型复用。N60累计交付接近2万台、月销约5000台,尚未成为超级爆款;但它说明,智驾能力正在从整车价格和出厂配置中部分脱离,真正影响体验的可能是软件版本,而不只是配置表上的TOPS。
Specifically, consumers in the 100,000-yuan range are not getting a comprehensively stripped-down car costing more than 200,000 yuan; they are getting a set of trade-offs that concentrates the budget on intelligent driving. Supply-chain price reductions have lowered the costs of cameras, lidar, millimeter-wave radar and chip computing power per unit, while platformization allows the same sensors, domain controllers, software adaptations, testing and OTA capabilities to be reused across models. The N60 has accumulated nearly 20,000 deliveries, with monthly sales of about 5,000 units, and has not yet become a runaway hit. But it shows that intelligent-driving capability is starting to detach partly from vehicle price and factory equipment, and that the software version—not just the TOPS figure on the specification sheet—may be what truly determines the experience.
