A creator checking footage on a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has a familiar choice: squint at the camera’s tiny screen or open DJI’s Mimo app. Osmosis, a free open-source alternative built by DJI watcher Konrad Iturbe, offers a third path: review and manage the camera wirelessly without launching Mimo.

Iturbe reverse-engineered the protocol that DJI cameras use to communicate with their official app. Osmosis can then show thumbnails, stream low-resolution previews, trim clips, set favorites, filter photos or videos, and queue only the downloads a user wants. That turns a quick check into a smaller, more deliberate transfer instead of moving every clip just to find the few worth keeping.

The app has been tested on the Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo Nano, Osmo Action 5 Pro, and Osmo Action 6. It should also work with the Xtra versions of those cameras, according to The Verge. Pairing is straightforward: Osmosis detects cameras wirelessly and can remember more than one, although connecting and paging through media can still take longer than expected.

The rough edges are visible. On the Pocket 3, the gimbal does not always stow fully, leaving the lens exposed unless it is folded away manually. And the Faved filter tracks favorites created in Osmosis, not those marked on the camera itself. These limits keep the project closer to an early prototype than a polished replacement.

So what changes in practice? Pocket camera owners can inspect, trim, and select footage on the go without using DJI’s Mimo app, making it easier to confirm a shot and avoid transferring unwanted clips. OpenPocketCine, another open-source project for the Osmo Pocket lineup, is pursuing an ambitious field-monitor app with custom LUTs, focus peaking, and zebras; Osmosis focuses instead on media management.
