Philips Hue brings Nanoleaf panels into its ecosystem with a $39.99 module

Snap the Philips Hue x Nanoleaf Wall Light Module onto a Nanoleaf Hexagon, Triangle, or Mini Triangle panel, and that wall light can join the Hue ecosystem rather than staying only in Nanoleaf’s system. Available from September 3 for $39.99, the module turns those panels into Hue lights with access to Hue scenes, automations, switches, gradient lighting, and entertainment experiences.

The module runs three connectivity protocols at once. The module runs Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Thread concurrently, allowing the Hue app and a Matter app such as Apple Home to work with it at the same time. Hue also says the panels will integrate with MotionAware and Spatial Aware features on its Bridge Pro.

There is an immediate trade-off. The Hue module currently replaces Nanoleaf’s controller, so owners lose Nanoleaf’s dynamic scenes, screen mirroring, music-reactive features, and physical controls. The integration covers Nanoleaf Shapes products — Hexagon, Triangle, and Mini Triangle — but not Lines, Blocks, or Elements. For now, the panels can be controlled in the Hue app, not the other way around.

That limitation is temporary, according to George Yianni, Philips Hue’s founder and head of technology. He told The Verge that using both controllers should become possible in the next couple of months; once it does, the most recent software command will take priority. The companies spent 18 months on the integration and chose a direct collaboration because Matter does not yet support the dynamic and entertainment functions Hue wanted. The partnership comes despite Signify, Hue’s parent company, recently suing Nanoleaf over patent infringement.

So, concretely, existing Nanoleaf Shapes owners can add Hue scenes, automations, switches, and entertainment controls without replacing their wall panels, for $39.99. They must accept the loss of Nanoleaf features until dual control arrives, and the flow remains mainly one-way: Nanoleaf inside Hue. From October 1, 2026, Hexagon and Triangle starter kits and extensions will also be available through Philips Hue’s website, starting at $49.99.
