SHINING 3D launches wireless EinScan Trak scanner

A scanner operator facing a car body, speedboat or yacht can now leave the marker kit aside—at least when the object has enough visible geometry. SHINING 3D has released the EinScan Trak, a wireless optical tracking system whose detachable scanner carries its own retroreflective markers, rather than requiring them on the surface being measured.

The setup has two forms. In tracking mode, a spherical scanner works wirelessly with a separate tracker for medium-to-large objects. The scanner then detaches into a standalone handheld laser unit for small mechanical components, deep cavities and hard-to-reach areas, allowing operators to change modes within one project. Its three blue-laser patterns serve different tasks: crossed lines for faster area coverage, seven parallel lines for edges and fine detail, and a single line for deep holes and narrow channels.

The headline performance figure is up to 2.63 million points per second, with resolution ranging from 0.05 to 10 mm. The tracked system’s maximum field of view is 4,796 x 4,174 mm at a 4,000 mm working distance; handheld mode reaches 547 x 463 mm at 500 mm. The tracker weighs 1.02 kg, the spherical scanner 1.46 kg and the handheld scanner 0.48 kg.

So what changes in practice? Teams working on large vehicles, boats, heritage objects or other sizable forms could begin digitizing without first covering the surface in markers, then use the lighter handheld scanner where access is tight. Batteries last up to 5.5 hours in tracking mode and 3.5 hours in scanner mode, with wireless range up to 4 meters; Wi-Fi 6, automatic pairing and hot-swappable batteries are designed to support continuous operation.

The marker-free promise has a boundary. Feature-based surface tracking requires sufficient geometric detail on the object, and global markers remain available when work demands finer detail. The system feeds EXMeasure for dimensional analysis and GD&T—geometric dimensioning and tolerancing inspection—and EXModel for reverse engineering and CAD-ready models. SHINING 3D also claims operation on black, reflective and metallic surfaces and tolerance to ambient light of up to 110,000 lux; those figures come from the manufacturer, with no independent test cited here.
