Skyven heat pump reaches COP 8.0 at Dallas demo center

In Dallas, a demonstration center is holding a number that industrial boiler operators watch closely: Skyven Technologies says its Arcturus industrial heat pump has sustained a COP of 8.0. The site had a COP of 6.5 when it was commissioned in November 2025.

Skyven says the gain came from refinements to the machine’s design, controls and integration. The company can tailor Arcturus to a customer’s operating conditions, producing temperature lifts from 38°C to 185°C with corresponding COPs ranging from 8.0 to 2.0. At the 8.0 level, Skyven says the system is about ten times more efficient than a conventional boiler.

The distinction matters because Arcturus is aimed at industrial steam. Skyven founder and CEO Arun Gupta says European manufacturers pay roughly four times more for steam than their American counterparts. For those customers, he says, a system operating at a COP of 8.0 can cut steam costs by 50% or more.

The emissions benefit comes from the same equipment change. Under the EU ETS, industrial sites pay for each tonne of CO2 emitted while generating steam in conventional boilers. Skyven says Arcturus generates the same steam without combustion, reducing that cost exposure as free allocations begin to be phased out.

So what changes in practice? Skyven says its Energy-as-a-Service model can typically save European manufacturers between €1 million ($1.16 million) and €5 million on steam in the first year. Those are company-reported estimates, while the COP 8.0 result has been achieved at a demonstration center; no commercial deployment or independent test is identified.
