ChatGPT taps Adobe editing, but still images lack PSD support

Drop a photo into the chat field and ask for it to be turned into an “underwater image” or cropped to a square for an Instagram post. Add @adobe at the beginning, and ChatGPT will call Adobe’s tools to process the image. The integrated plugin tested by Nobuyoshi Kodera of ITmedia NEWS was 7.0.0. It combines integrations that were previously separated by app.

The results were easiest to understand with still images. Cropping centered on a person’s face, adding a title and applying an amber-toned color adjustment could all be done through conversation alone, while conversion to vector data usable in Illustrator was completed in seconds. The color adjustment changed not only the hue but also the contrast, allowing even people unfamiliar with professional adjustment workflows to describe what they wanted and obtain the result.

However, limitations emerge as the work approaches the core of design production. A change to the specified “TT Modernoir” font was not applied, and the integration was explained to lack a function for actually embedding fonts and typesetting with them. Creating PSD files and adding text layers were also not supported in the published feature set, and the only available output was layerless PNG/JPEG. The system can process a single image, but it cannot handle workflows that require elements to be edited in detail later.

Even so, the changes it brings are concrete. When processing large numbers of images one by one—opening them, deciding on the framing and adjusting the colors—it may be possible to use conversation to request judgments that are difficult to handle with simple batch processing. The system works in both the web and app versions and can be used by guests, although more features are available to users who register and sign in with an Adobe account.

In other words, this is not a tool that eliminates Photoshop, but one that shortens the first step into Adobe products. People who know clearly what they want to create can reduce the burden of moving between multiple apps and menus. In production environments that require specific fonts, layers and final typesetting, however, finishing work in local Photoshop remains essential.
