Xiaomi’s humanoid prototype debuts after factory training
A light-gray humanoid robot appeared as a florist in Beijing on August 19, then reached for bouquets and passed them to visitors. Xiaomi’s new-generation Tieda prototype was making its first public appearance at the 2026 World Robot Conference after four months of training in an auto factory. It also completed handshakes and fist bumps, with decisions driven by models rather than preset scripts.
The production line supplied a harder exam than a trade-show demo. At a die-casting workshop’s nut station, the robot worked autonomously for three hours, reaching 90.2% installation success while meeting the 76-second rhythm. Xiaomi later said performance at the same task rose to 98%. The robot also sorted flexible center-console covers and folded boxes, with both tasks reaching 90% success.
The machine is full-size: 1.70 meters tall, 66 kilograms and equipped with 66 degrees of freedom, the number of independently controlled movements in its body, including 33 in its hands. Xiaomi’s approach combines multimodal perception—processing several kinds of input—with reinforcement learning, in which repeated feedback improves decisions. The company also uses its open-source Xiaomi-Robotics-0 model.
So what changes in practice? For Xiaomi, the immediate value is not a standalone product, but factory cost reduction and technology accumulation. The company says robotics will connect with its wider human, car and home ecosystem, including smart factories, mobility and household applications. The prototype is due to travel to Europe after its debut, while the robot business has generated no independent external revenue.
Xiaomi entered humanoid robotics around 2021 and released the first-generation CyberOne Tieda the following year, with 21 whole-body degrees of freedom focused on interaction. The new machine is still a prototype, not a production deployment. Its factory results come from Xiaomi’s own trials, and no independent test of the reported success rates has been published in the supplied accounts.
