The useful moment comes after the swim: a swimmer can leave the pool and open an app to see how the session went. Speedo is launching the Speedo iQ, a removable smart module for its Vanquisher goggles that analyzes performance across freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

The hardware does its work underwater. Swim-specific sensors analyze head movement, time breaths and track distance per stroke, then automatically transmit the data to Speedo’s accompanying app. There is no built-in display, so nothing is shown in front of the swimmer during the session.

That choice separates Speedo’s system from smart goggles such as those made by Form, which use an integrated display. It also makes the module reusable: if a pair of Vanquisher goggles needs replacing, Speedo says the iQ unit can be transferred to another pair.

Concretely, swimmers get post-session feedback without paying for a subscription. The system is also described by Speedo as legal for use during World Aquatics competitions, giving competitive swimmers a way to track the same four strokes in training and in permitted race settings. The Vanquisher goggles with the iQ module included cost $189 and can be ordered now in a variety of colors.

The limits are clear. Speedo’s announcement does not provide independent testing of the sensor measurements, and it does not say how closely the app’s readings match other timing or tracking tools. For now, the product is commercially available, but the evidence presented for its accuracy comes from the manufacturer itself.
