Capalo AI to trade Baltic hybrid solar-storage parks

At the Anykščiai solar park in Lithuania, the battery is already connected: 25 MW/65 MWh beside 78.5 MW of solar. In August, Finnish company Capalo AI said commissioning and market prequalification were complete. It has now agreed with Danish developer European Energy to trade this site and a second hybrid park in Latvia.

The Latvian Saldus Hybrid Park is still under construction. Capalo and European Energy describe its battery as 46 MW/105 MWh. Earlier European Energy announcements cited 46 MW and, separately, 92 MWh, leaving open whether the new figures reflect a final design, a project change or another phase. The companies have not clarified the discrepancy in their public disclosures.

Capalo’s role is broader than finding a buyer for electricity. Its Zeus VPP platform — a virtual power plant that coordinates distributed energy assets — will dispatch the solar and batteries together and trade them in day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets. Capalo will also provide BRP services, meaning balance responsible party services that keep scheduled and actual electricity flows aligned; the company uses a different BRP arrangement in Poland.

The commercial base behind the agreement is already substantial. Capalo says it manages 1.6 GW of batteries and 460 MWp of solar across six European markets, with 600 MW of batteries and 300 MWp of solar already live under trading and optimization. European Energy’s battery-storage development pipeline grew from 2.4 GW to 7.4 GW in 2025, while the Baltic region has been building common balancing arrangements after synchronizing with Continental Europe.

And so what, concretely? For Anykščiai, the agreement gives a connected battery and solar park a route into several electricity markets instead of treating solar generation and storage as separate assets. For Saldus, the benefit remains prospective until construction is complete. Lithuania’s government has approved support for up to approximately 1.7 GW/4 GWh of new storage capacity, but the announced projects still face the practical test of final configuration, commissioning and market operation.
