Hyundai Mobis showcases around 40 smart manufacturing technologies

At the Quantum Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, visitors watched robots move parts and practise factory work inside virtual production lines. Hyundai Mobis put around 40 smart manufacturing technologies on display at its two-day M-Sphere 2026 exhibition, attended by about 1,000 industry officials.

The most tangible demonstration was an autonomous transport robot now being tested at the company’s chassis module plant in Ulsan. Its three-dimensional vision system identifies routes, locates and loads components, and carries parts weighing up to 20 kilograms to assembly lines. Hyundai Mobis says the approach can improve delivery accuracy and efficiency while reducing safety risks for workers.

A second system tackles a different factory problem: teaching robots when the line changes. Digital twins, virtual reproductions of manufacturing lines, let robotic arms and grippers rehearse production tasks before operating on the factory floor. Using a virtual airbag production line, Hyundai Mobis showed robots being retrained within two to four hours after changes to products or equipment.

The exhibition also included an automated system for attaching temperature sensors to battery modules, a task previously done manually because the connectors are small. Precision controls inspect the connector from four directions, while deep-learning software identifies the correct insertion point before completing the connection.

So what changes in practice? For factories, these tools could reduce the time needed to adapt robots, move components with less manual handling and automate delicate assembly work. The picture is not uniform: Hyundai Mobis says some solutions are already deployed at factories, while the transport robot is still being tested.
