The aircraft was a Heavy Shot Ayudag-6, a six-rotor drone from the Ukrainian maker Gurzuf Defence, normally used to carry heavy loads and munitions. It weighs 98 kg and can lift up to 130 kg. For this mission, the 10th Army Corps and the 92nd Brigade worked with the manufacturer to rebuild it. It received a Starlink satellite link with anti-jamming capability, a modular harness that lowers supplies and hauls the wounded man back, an electric winch, and night-vision and thermal cameras. Its airframe was also upgraded for greater stability, so the patient would not swing excessively beneath it. Operators from the brigade's Unmanned Systems unit flew it, and Kostiantyn fastened himself into the harness with guidance from fellow soldiers.

Evacuating wounded men from the battlefield is old practice. The French Air Service began with small evacuations from the front lines during the First World War, using modified Dorand AR.1 biplanes. Tens of thousands of casualties were flown out across Europe and the Pacific in the Second World War, and the first helicopter medevacs followed with the US Army Air Force in Burma in 1944. Today military helicopters can bring intensive care equipment and trauma teams straight to the field. What had been missing was a way to reach ground that no crew could enter.

The sources give no count of other missions, no cost, and no range figures beyond the lift capacity. Kostiantyn was reported in stable condition at Kharkiv Military Hospital after the flight.

For now the gain is narrow but concrete. Soldiers pinned down in ground that vehicles cannot cross, who might otherwise wait for a window that never comes, now have a second route out. The method depends on a heavy drone, a satellite link and trained pilots, all of which exist on this front today. Whether other units adopt it, and how often it can be repeated, is still open.
