CarNewsChina reports that the Freelander 8 is due to meet Chinese buyers on September 3 with an unusual pitch: a full-size SUV that pairs 610 kW of dual-motor all-wheel-drive power with 310 km of electric range under CLTC conditions. The cabin is built around a 46.3-inch instrument display beneath the windshield, plus a 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted monitor. CarNewsChina’s main text gives September 3 as the launch date, while its image caption says September 8.

The vehicle comes from the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture and is positioned as the successor to the Land Rover Freelander, which was discontinued in 2014. At 5,118 mm long, it is 736 mm longer than the first-generation Freelander. It offers five- or six-seat layouts, dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering and 220 mm of ground clearance, with a claimed turning radius of 5.15 meters.

Its extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV, layout puts a 1.5-liter range extender under the hood alongside a 60.3 kWh LFP battery. The battery supports the stated electric range, while the two motors produce 813 Nm and propel the SUV from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The Freelander 8 can also tow up to 2,000 kg and rides on 21- or 22-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero Elect tires.

So what changes in practice? For Chinese buyers seeking a large family vehicle, the Freelander 8 combines electric driving with the flexibility of a range extender, while adding space and equipment aimed at long journeys: massage seats, folding tables and a built-in 10-liter fridge. Presales range from 339,900 to 459,900 yuan, and UAE road tests suggest the model is being prepared for a global rollout, though no international launch date is given. These specifications are reported by CarNewsChina; no independent road test is cited.
