A pair of doors swings open at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, leaving a clear passage into Genesis’ largest vehicle yet. At the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the Hyundai luxury brand unveiled the GV90, a full-size electric SUV that brings coach doors, swiveling front seats and a built-in refrigerator to its flagship range. Hyundai Motor Company CEO José Muñoz called it a new chapter for Genesis; the company’s executives presented it as a clean-sheet rethink of luxury electric mobility.

The missing pillar creates a significant engineering challenge. A B-pillar — the vertical support between a vehicle’s front and rear doors — normally helps preserve cabin strength in a side impact or rollover. On the four-seat GV90 Neolun, Genesis replaces that fixed pillar with reinforced doors, dual steel beams and a concealed roll-cage structure. The company says the frame is 1.5 times thicker than average, while Genesis body-structure executive Lee Dae-hee said the Neolun has 12 percent greater structural rigidity than versions with conventional doors. Independent crash-test results have not yet been published.

The cabin is designed less like a conventional SUV than a parked lounge. The front seats can rotate 180 degrees toward the second row, although Genesis intends that feature for use only when the vehicle is stationary. A 23.6-inch OLED display rises and expands to 24.6 inches when parked, while a 25-inch head-up display projects speed, navigation and driver-assistance information onto the windshield. The Neolun adds four seats, a wood floor, integrated tables, privacy features and underfloor heating inspired by Korea’s ondol system.

Underneath, the GV90 uses a 123.5 kWh battery and two electric motors with combined output of 490 kW and 800 Nm. Genesis estimates around 310 miles (500 km) of range for the seven-seat version; CleanTechnica reported a separate internal estimate of 316 miles, while Automobile Propre noted that European WLTP figures still need confirmation. The SUV supports 350 kW DC fast charging, with a claimed 10-to-80 percent charging time of 22 minutes. Genesis also fits electronic limited-slip differentials on both axles and an electronically controlled suspension.

So what changes in practice? For buyers seeking a large electric vehicle with a chauffeur-oriented rear cabin, the GV90 offers a different use of space: easier access through the Neolun’s wide opening, face-to-face seating when parked and a quieter, entertainment-focused interior. For everyone else, its scale is the constraint. Genesis has not disclosed a European price or sales date, and the company’s range and safety claims still await consistent regional figures and third-party testing. Its dedicated production facility in Ulsan shows the ambition, but the sources do not establish that customer deliveries have begun.
