Zhuzhou’s Beidou cluster reaches 187 companies as satellite output scales
Inside Hunan Sailerdete’s factory in Zhuzhou, satellites move through assembly, vibration, magnetic and vacuum-thermal tests rather than being built one at a time like bespoke machines. The facility produces 150 small satellites per year in the 50–500 kilogram class, according to the company, as Zhuzhou builds what local officials describe as a full Beidou ecosystem—from launch to data and applications.
The factory’s clearest proof point is XR-11, a 135-kilogram remote-sensing satellite launched in May 2025 aboard the Lijian-1 Y-7 rocket. Its 0.5-meter resolution is designed to monitor natural resources and crop growth. Sailerdete says automation, modular satellite platforms and a production line that can be reorganized for different designs cut both manufacturing and launch costs by more than half. The company says XR-11 has also generated repeat orders.
That cost pressure matters because commercial aerospace still faces four practical obstacles: high prices, long delivery times, difficult operation and low output. Batch production is the proposed answer. In Zhuzhou, the National Development and Reform Commission has approved Hunan’s first pulsating microsatellite smart production line, giving the city an industrial base for producing more spacecraft with less bespoke work.
The other half of the system is what happens after launch. Zhuzhou Taikong Xingji, founded in 2022, operates the Zhuzhou Constellation, described as China’s first commercial hybrid radar remote-sensing constellation. It had eight synthetic-aperture radar satellites in orbit by August 2026. Unlike optical satellites, radar can image through clouds and in darkness, enabling millimeter-level deformation monitoring for uses ranging from terrain mapping to emergency response.
So what, concretely? For customers that need repeated observation rather than a single satellite image, Zhuzhou is assembling the pieces in one place: spacecraft production, rockets, data downlink, standardized products and applications. The cluster reached 22.96 billion yuan in 2025, up 33.82%, with 187 companies. The scale is real, but the sources describe company claims and an industrial build-out—not independent testing of every performance or cost figure.
