BYD launches Qin Max with 5-minute fast charging in China

A new BYD sedan is asking drivers to spend less time beside a charger: the Qin Max can move from 10% to 70% battery in approximately 5 minutes on its EV models, using BYD’s flash-charging system under normal temperatures. The B-segment model joins BYD’s Dynasty series with nine variants, split between plug-in hybrid and pure-electric versions.

The electric Qin Max is rear-wheel drive and uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery. Buyers can choose a 120 kW motor with a 530 km CLTC range or a 240 kW motor with a 630 km CLTC range. The more powerful version delivers peak torque exceeding 400 N · m and reaches 0-100 km/h in the 5-second range. Charging from 10% to 97% takes about 9 minutes, according to CarNewsChina.

The plug-in hybrid DM-i versions start at 99,900 yuan and use BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology. A 1.5L naturally aspirated engine rated at 74 kW works with a 175 kW drive motor, giving the system a combined range of up to 2,370km and a fuel consumption rate of 2.59L/100km. Pure-electric versions start at 109,900 yuan, while the most expensive Qin Max costs 143,900 yuan.

BYD has also fitted the sedan with features including a 15.6-inch central screen, an AR-HUD, a cooling and heating refrigerator, and, on high-end trims, DiSus-C intelligent damping with road-preview capabilities. An optional “God’s Eye B” driver-assistance system with LiDAR adds urban navigation assistance for ramps, lane changes and obstacle avoidance on highways and city streets.

So what changes in practice? Chinese customers get a new sedan with two powertrain choices, fast charging on the EV models and a broad price range inside BYD’s existing lineup. But the Qin Max is not a separate technical breakthrough from BYD’s 2027 Seal 06: the two cars share the same wheelbase, power outputs, battery generation, charging claims and core DM-i hardware. The distinction is mainly the body, interior and sales network—an internal choice for buyers, built on one underlying technology set.
