Dyson unveils ¥3,899 AI camera toothbrush
When brushing the inner side of the lower teeth, the handle may even be turned completely upside down. Conventional water flossers draw liquid from a reservoir through a tube, which can take in air when the device's orientation changes, leaving only a hissing sound from the nozzle. Dyson has added a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber to this new toothbrush, allowing the internal diaphragm to expand as the liquid level falls and maintain supply pressure. This is the core design intended to solve the problem of using the device upside down.
CameraJet combines an electric toothbrush, water flosser, endoscope and AI image recognition in a single handle. Beneath the brush head is a macro camera measuring about 1 mm in diameter with 100,000 pixels. Together with a strobing fill light, it analyzes 28 frames of oral footage per second before sending them to the Gap Optical Targeting machine-learning algorithm, which searches for gaps between teeth that are more likely to trap debris. The time from spotting a target to liquid emerging from the nozzle can be as little as 100 milliseconds.
It uses a “see one spot, spray once” approach, delivering up to about 0.15 ml of mouthwash into a gap between teeth per burst. As a result, it does not need the large reservoir used by a traditional water flosser. The handle's reservoir holds 12.5 ml, while the accompanying base has a 200 ml reservoir. After the toothbrush is returned to the base and a button is pressed, it can be refilled in three seconds. The nozzle also avoids a thin, needle-like jet, instead using a cone-shaped flow with wider coverage. Dyson says this can sweep across a larger area while reducing irritation to the gums and enamel.
As for brushing itself, CameraJet comes with a dual-layer brush head: the harder inner bristles clean the tooth surface, while the softer outer bristles care for the gums and gaps between teeth. Its sonic motor vibrates 58,000 times per minute and continuously changes the brush head's oscillation angle. Users can choose among gentle, variable and deep-cleaning intensity levels, and switch between brushing-and-flossing, brushing-only and flossing-only modes. Through a Wi-Fi connection to the MyDyson WeChat mini program, they can also view real-time oral footage, brushing coverage, missed areas and long-term cleaning trends.
More specifically, it is aimed first at people who do not want to use dental floss but frequently miss the gaps between their teeth: rather than changing users' habits, the device attempts to automatically integrate inspection and targeted rinsing into the brushing motion. The device weighs 230 g, supports IPX7 water resistance, and has replaceable lithium batteries and brush heads. The package also includes two brush heads, a refill base, a magnetic charging cable and a travel case. However, how thoroughly a ¥3,899 product can clean teeth still requires confirmation through more long-term, independent testing. What is clear for now is that it has moved beyond being a “toothbrushing tool” toward an oral-care device that observes, assesses and delivers liquid to specific spots.
