IntelliCAD 15.0 brings AI-assisted CAD and drawing comparison previews

A designer comparing two revisions of a technical drawing will get a clearer starting point in IntelliCAD 15.0: the new Drawing Compare feature places the files side by side and highlights their differences visually. The release, announced by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium, also gives compatible versions a first AI-assisted workflow inside the drawing itself.

The AI preview works through plain-language prompts. A user can ask questions about a drawing, select entities, extract information, or generate and run a custom LISP program — a small program used to extend CAD, or computer-aided design, software. IntelliCAD says the workflow can use Anthropic Claude, Google Antigravity, or OpenAI ChatGPT.

The second major change is less visible but matters to the people who build on IntelliCAD. After a multi-year modernization, the new LISP API is complete and the legacy LISP engine has been retired. With the new VLISP-COMPILE function and Make LISP Application command, members can compile and load protected LISP applications in FAS and VLX formats.

So what, concretely? Reviewers can spot changes between drawings faster, while developers get a cleaner foundation for applications and automation. For users, the most direct shift is the ability to interrogate a drawing or trigger custom actions without first navigating every command manually. The AI feature remains a preview, however, and is not described as a finished, universally available capability.

IntelliCAD 15.0 also includes further developer API updates, work from its BIM and DGN Special Interest Groups, performance improvements, and interface refinements. The release requires 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, and ITC members will determine when their IntelliCAD 15.0-based products become available.
