Denza Z Racing claims a 1.96-second 0-to-62-mph time

The Lamborghini gets the first jump. Then the Denza Z Racing’s tires warm up, the cars line up again, and BYD’s electric supercar takes the next two races. CarWow’s video comparison puts the £172,900 Denza Z Racing ahead of a Lamborghini Temerario that starts at £310,000 in the UK.

The result rests on three electric motors producing a combined 1,582 hp and 1,240 Nm of torque, according to the figures listed for the Denza Z. With optional semi-slick tires, the Racing version is rated to go from 0 to 62 mph in 1.96 seconds. The Lamborghini is listed at 920 hp, 1,000 Nm and 2.7 seconds for the same sprint.

BYD is positioning the Denza Z against premium European brands including Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. Its price also undercuts the Porsche 911 Turbo S in the UK: that model starts at £199,100, while the Denza Z Racing starts at £172,900. In China, the three versions start at 680,000 RMB, 780,000 RMB and 1.18 million RMB respectively.

The technology is not only about the launch. BYD’s e3 platform includes steer-by-wire, an electronic steering system intended to add control and handling, alongside Disus-M, a magnetorheological intelligent suspension system that can adjust to bumps and even make the car hop over obstacles. All three versions use a 76 kWh Blade Battery 2.0, with WLTP ranges of 410 km for the Coupe, 400 km for the Spider and 380 km for the Racing model.

So what changes in concrete terms? BYD opened UK orders for a three-motor electric supercar with a claimed 1.96-second 0-to-62-mph time for less than a Porsche 911 Turbo S, while the battery system promises five-minute charging from 10% to 70%. BYD says global pre-orders passed 1,000 in five days. The performance and charging figures are still claims from the manufacturer, and the Lamborghini result comes from CarWow’s video test; no independent test is cited here.
