In Aspen, Colorado, a 250-ish-mile mountain route put Porsche’s new Cayenne Turbo Electric through fast roads and dirt tracks. Electrek’s first drive found an SUV with 844 hp in everyday driving, rising to 1,139 hp and 1,106 lb-ft with Launch Control for brief bursts. The result is not subtle: overtaking at 80 mph and climbing steep hills barely taxed the motors.

The headline output comes with a footnote. Launch Control provides the full 1,139 hp only for a matter of seconds, while a steering-wheel Push-to-Pass function adds 176 hp for ten-second bursts. Car and Driver recorded 0–60 mph in 2.1 seconds and a quarter-mile in 9.5 seconds, according to Electrek. The Cayenne stopped from 70 mph in 140 feet, matching the result cited for a Corvette ZR1, and reached 1.05 g on the skidpad.

Charging is another central part of Porsche’s pitch. The Cayenne uses an 800V system and Porsche says it can charge from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes on compatible equipment. Electrek did not test that best-case result because its route offered 400V, 200kW chargers. The SUV also supports Plug and Charge, has a NACS port with a CCS adapter, and can accept up to 19.2 kW of AC charging at home.

So what does it change in practice? For a buyer seeking hypercar acceleration, family-SUV space and fast charging in one vehicle, the Cayenne brings those traits together. But the benefit is reserved for a small luxury market: the starting price is $163,000, and Electrek says a heavily optioned vehicle can pass $250,000. Its peak output is also accessed through dedicated driving modes rather than simply being available at every throttle press.

The compromises are less dramatic but more ordinary. Electrek found the instrument cluster overwhelming, with some functions difficult to navigate between the built-in system and the Apple CarPlay projection option. The design was described as restrained for the price. The engineering behind the chassis, thermal management and charging curve impressed the reviewer, but the Cayenne’s strengths come at a cost: this is an electric SUV aimed at Porsche buyers who want extreme performance and are willing to pay for it.
