Simple Energy launches Wave family of e-scooters from ₹1.1 lakh

Bookings for the Bengaluru startup's new Wave family are open across its stores and website, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the last week of September. The six-model range starts at an introductory ₹1.10 Lakh (ex-showroom) price.

Simple Energy has split the family across three variants: the Simple Wave S, Simple Wave and Simple Wave+. The models differ in battery capacity, displays and connected features. At the top sits the Wave+, with a 5 kWh battery pack, a 243 km IDC-certified range and a 90 kmph top speed. Its 6.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor generates 179 Nm of wheel torque. The other listed battery capacities are 3.7 kWh, 2.7 kWh and 2.2 kWh, offering certified ranges of 171 km, 132 km and 110 km.

The charging equipment is part of the range rather than a separate detail: the scooters come with portable chargers and support both standard and fast charging. Simple Energy claims that the Wave+ supports 0-80% charging in a minimum of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The range figures are IDC-certified.

The product now faces a manufacturing test. The company has capacity to manufacture 3,000 scooters a month and says it sells around 1,500 monthly through more than 75 outlets across 63 cities. It plans to reach 10,000 monthly sales by March 2027, expanding both production capacity and its retail network. It expects manufacturing capacity utilisation to rise to 75-80% by the end of the next financial year, from around 35% currently. In June, it raised ₹250 Cr in debt and equity, primarily to scale manufacturing, with the rest directed to sales, marketing and research and development.

The concrete change for shoppers is a broader set of electric scooter choices at the mass-market end, with several battery sizes and certified range points in one family. Ola Electric recently launched the S1Z at ₹79,999 and ₹99,999, while Ather Energy introduced the Konarc family from ₹99,999. The timing is mixed rather than one-way: Vahan data shows August registrations at 1.72 Lakh units, down 16.2% month on month but up 64% year on year.
