Running shoes, glasses, recorders, microphones, PCs, tablets and wearables can share a single account inside Tencent’s WorkBuddy ecosystem. On September 2, Tencent opened the WorkBuddy platform, bringing more than 100 partners into a system that connects smart hardware, industry applications and developers. Tasks, memory and outputs can move across more than a dozen device categories and over 30 brands.

The move takes WorkBuddy beyond a standalone tool. Tencent is opening its underlying agent capabilities—the software layer that connects tools to tasks—to hardware makers, industry applications and developers. Nine co-branded devices were unveiled with partners including Plaud, Rokid, Insta360, iFLYTEK, Anker, Hollyland and JD.com’s JingZao. Vendors do not need to build their own AI or change their product form. Liu Yi, Tencent Cloud’s vice president and the lead for WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy, described the ambition as an “operating system for the agent era.”

The new Buddy App entry point lets partners create branded AI workstations for specific industries. A public-welfare example combines Tencent charity-platform data into 11 scenario capsules and 42 capabilities supported by 15 agents, covering grant applications, bill processing, due-diligence analysis and charity-law interpretation. Certified institutions can claim 5,000 WorkBuddy points monthly in 2026.

Developers get three named capabilities—Skills, Experts and Connectors—through standard protocols. The connector supports both protocol-based and command-line access. More than 100 partners are already co-creating applications across finance, software as a service, education and healthcare, but Tencent says payment and distribution channels are still being built.

So, concretely, a hardware maker can add WorkBuddy functions without developing a separate AI system, while users can carry tasks and outputs between connected products under one account. Industry partners receive a ready-made base for specialized applications, and certified public-welfare institutions may access the points program. The platform is open and already integrated with devices and applications; the missing piece is the developer reward and distribution system, which remains unfinished at launch.
