GM’s 2027 EV lineup will plug into compatible Tesla Superchargers
At a Tesla Supercharger, a 2027 GM electric vehicle will be able to pull up, connect and charge without the adapter that many drivers still keep in the trunk. General Motors is putting a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port — also known as SAE J3400 — on every Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC EV in its 2027 model-year lineup.
The change reaches the full range GM currently sells or has confirmed for that model year, from the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, Lyriq, Optiq and Vistiq to the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV, plus the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV and Sierra EV. The 2026 Cadillac Optiq has already adopted the port. The reborn Chevrolet Bolt arrives in 2026 as a 2027 model with NACS built in.
For drivers, the benefit is less about a new charging technology than fewer objects and decisions at the charging stop. A native NACS port opens direct access to compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers, including more than 27,500 Tesla Superchargers. GM is also folding Energy Pass into its MyChevrolet, MyCadillac and MyGMC apps, allowing registration and payment across Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America and ChargePoint, with EVgo on the way. GM says those networks cover nearly 70% of US DC fast chargers.
The bridge to that simpler setup still costs money. Most 2026 GM EVs retain a CCS1 port and need GM’s $275 NACS DC adapter for compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers. Some Supercharger locations remain limited to Tesla vehicles, so access is not universal.
So what changes in practice? A 2027 GM EV owner should have a smoother fast-charging routine on NACS networks, while keeping an adapter for CCS1 stations and a J1772 adapter — the connector used by most existing Level 2 chargers, including many home charging units. GM sells that J1772 adapter for $67, or bundles it with its CCS1 DC adapter for $256.
