BYD’s Da Han sedan offers up to 1,008 km of stated CLTC electric range

A 5.3-meter sedan will take the stage in Chengdu on August 21, carrying an unusually large number on its battery gauge: BYD says the electric Da Han can reach 1,008 km of CLTC range. The flagship will make its China debut at the 29th Chengdu Auto Show and open presales there, with prices expected to be revealed at the same time.

The entry-level battery-electric Da Han pairs a single motor with a peak power of 370 kW and a 102.326 kWh battery. The all-wheel-drive version uses two motors for a combined peak of 570 kW, or 764 hp, while its stated range falls to 880 km under the same CLTC test conditions. BYD is also preparing a plug-in hybrid, the Da Han DM, with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, a 54.489 kWh LFP battery and up to 470 km in battery-electric mode.

The car’s size is part of the message. Its body measures 5,256 mm in length, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase—66 mm longer than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, according to CarNewsChina. Rear-wheel steering should help manage that length. The DiPilot 5.0 assisted-driving system adds a LiDAR sensor on the roof and cameras in the front fenders.

Charging is the other hard claim. All Da Han versions will support BYD’s flash-charging technology, which the company says can move the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. So what changes, concretely? For buyers in China, the Da Han brings long stated range, very high peak power and fast charging into one large sedan, with presales beginning on August 21. BYD’s expected price is around 300,000 yuan, or 44,490 USD, but the final figure remains to be disclosed. The launch also arrives as BYD reports global July sales of 411,072 cars, while domestic deliveries declined year over year to 172,449 units.
