Enphase opens pre-orders for 80 kWh commercial battery system
A battery for a school, retail location or logistics warehouse is designed to arrive as one finished box rather than a collection of parts. Enphase has launched the IQ Battery C80, its first storage platform designed specifically for commercial and industrial sites, with U.S. pre-orders open and shipments expected to begin in Q1 2027.
The factory-assembled outdoor enclosure is built around 80 kWh of usable capacity and can deliver up to 40 kVA of continuous AC power. Its distributed, microinverter-based power-conversion architecture supports three-phase connections at 277Y/480 V and 120Y/208 V, depending on the grid configuration, while Enphase says AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency exceeds 90%.
The installation change is straightforward: installers connect external AC conductors and commission the unit. They do not need to perform internal module stacking, DC wiring or field-installed power-electronics integration. Enphase says that design is intended to reduce site labor time, complexity and installation risk. The battery uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry, with forced-air cooling and module heaters replacing liquid-cooling loops or dedicated HVAC equipment.
Safety systems include module-level smoke and gas detection, active pressure relief, an integrated aerosol fire-suppression system and thermal-runaway mitigation tested under UL 9540A. The C80 also integrates with Enphase software for self-consumption optimization, demand-charge reduction, time-of-use arbitrage and virtual power plant participation. Its warranty covers 15 years or 7,000 cycles.
The practical change is for commercial installers and site owners: a standardized, front-access unit could simplify deployment in tight outdoor footprints while giving facilities more ways to manage stored electricity. Enphase says the U.S.-designed system follows FEOC guidelines and includes targeted domestic content, which may allow qualifying projects to receive bonus investment-tax-credit adders.
The limits are clear. The system is open for pre-order, not yet shipping; deliveries are expected in Q1 2027. The performance figures are Enphase’s published specifications, and the source does not report an independent field trial.
