Dyson unveils Nurovi robot cleaners with AI vision

At Dyson's Unveiled event in Berlin, chief engineer Jake Dyson stood beside a new family of robot cleaners built to sense more than dust. The company unveiled the three-model Nurovi range, marking a move from appliances driven by mechanical performance alone toward products that use artificial intelligence, vision systems and sensors to respond to their surroundings.

The R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry uses a triangular rotating mop to reach closer to edges and corners. Its piezo sensor measures dust particles in real time and adjusts suction automatically, while the dock washes and dries the mop. The R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV adds AI-based stain detection using vision, ultraviolet light and green illumination; Dyson says it can identify stained areas and clean them repeatedly until the stain is removed. Its stated suction is 30,000 pascals, which Dyson says is 65 percent more than its previous robot cleaner. The R1 Nurovi Dry concentrates on vacuuming and uses the Twin-capture system to separate larger debris from fine dust.

A similar machine-vision approach appears in CameraJet, Dyson's first oral-care system. It combines an electric toothbrush and liquid jet with a 100,000-pixel macro camera that analyzes 28 images per second. Dyson says its machine-learning system was trained on 470,000 dental images to identify gaps between teeth and help direct cleaning. The camera is activated only during live viewing or automatic jet functions, and the company says images are not stored on the device or in the cloud.

Dyson says 661 engineers worked on CameraJet over six years. The company is also expanding its HushJet air-treatment range with three models and adding two hair devices, including Airsmooth, its first dedicated hot-air styling brush, and the Corrale Cool Shine straightener, which adds cooling after styling.

So what, concretely? In Korea, the R2 Nurovi is due to launch Monday and Airsmooth a day later; CameraJet is priced at 749,000 won ($550). Dyson Korea's current local rollout list names nine products but does not specify the R1. The most striking performance and cleaning claims are attributed to Dyson.
