Xiaomi Pengcheng N90 Max seat rails tow 57.8 tonnes

In the footage, two tow ropes are attached to the N90 Max's seats as the vehicle moves forward on a wet, slippery surface. At one end is a 55-tonne mining truck, while the other is connected to another N90 Max, bringing the actual total towing mass to 57.8 tonnes. A video released by Xiaomi Pengcheng and XCMG Group shows that the seat rails remained fully adjustable after the challenge.

This was not a case of hooking the vehicle up to an external towing device; instead, the pulling force was applied to the seats and their rail structure. Xiaomi Auto vice president Li Xiaoshuang completed the tow, then used a voice command to move the seat forward, with the rails continuing to function. The demonstration subjected a component normally responsible for adjusting the position of the second- and third-row seats to loads far beyond those encountered in everyday use.

The N90 Max's rails use reinforced 7-series aluminum alloy. Xiaomi Pengcheng says the material's tensile strength is 9% higher than that of standard 7-series aluminum alloy, while the rails have a locking strength of 54000N and a maximum peel strength of 57000N. In temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C, the rails completed 15,000 cycles of sliding tests, with no loosening or abnormal noise afterward. The vehicle has six rails, the longest measuring 1938mm, supporting front- and rear-seat sliding and multiple cabin layouts.

More specifically, the challenge does not demonstrate a daily capability for family users to tow a mining truck. Instead, it offers a visual demonstration of the reliability margin of the movable seat components. Seat rails must regularly withstand loads from adjustment, locking and passengers sitting down. The extreme towing test at least shows that the manufacturer was willing to validate the structure's strength in a publicly released video; however, the result cannot replace long-term road-use data, and the figures currently available mainly come from Xiaomi Pengcheng, with no independent test results reported so far.

The N90 Max is positioned as a large seven-seat flagship range-extended SUV. It uses a 1.5T range-extender system and dual-motor all-wheel drive, with a peak output of 310kW and a 76kWh ternary lithium battery. It offers a CLTC pure-electric range of 464km and a combined range of 1705km. The presale price is 299,900 yuan, and the vehicle is scheduled to launch in September. For a model that remains in the pre-launch stage, the rail test has brought the mechanical foundation behind its variable cabin space into view for consumers.
