Mazda opens China pre-sales for LiDAR-assisted CX-6e

At the top of Mazda’s refreshed CX-6e, a roof-mounted LiDAR unit now scans the road ahead. The SUV has entered pre-sales in China, where it is also called the EZ-60, and Mazda says the new hardware brings assisted driving to both highway and urban scenarios. The LiDAR works alongside three mmWave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars and 11 cameras.

Mazda describes the system as advanced L2 assisted driving, covering over 200 assisted driving scenarios. On highways, the CX-6e can approach on- and off-ramps, enter service areas and overtake slower cars through autonomous lane changes, according to the automaker. In cities, Mazda says it can handle intersections and roundabouts without user input, perform U-turns and make emergency lane changes to avoid obstacles. The stated operating range is 0 to 130 km/h on highways and 0 to 80 km/h in urban scenarios.

The vehicle keeps two powertrain choices. Its EV trims use a 77.94 kWh LFP battery from CALB, a single 190 kW (255 hp) rear motor and a CLTC range of 585 to 600 km. The EREV versions add a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre range extender rated at 72 kW (97 hp), while using a smaller 31.73 kWh LFP battery from CATL–Changan for 200 km of CLTC range. Both versions reach a maximum speed of 185 km/h. EV trims can charge from 30-80% in 15 minutes with 3C fast charging.

For buyers, the change is not only on the roof. The cabin uses a 26.45-inch 5K infotainment screen stretching from the centre to the passenger’s side, plus a 50-inch head-up display, with a 100-inch option. The CX-6e currently retails for 119,900 to 166,900 yuan in China; LiDAR-equipped trims are expected to start at 160,000 yuan, but final pricing remains unannounced. Mazda has also not disclosed the LiDAR suppliers.

So what changes in practice? Chinese customers entering pre-sales can choose an electric SUV whose manufacturer says it will take on more of the repetitive work of highway and city driving, from lane changes to parking, while still presenting the system as assisted driving rather than a fully driverless vehicle. The model is built and developed by the Changan-Mazda joint venture, and China EV DataTracker recorded 2,929 CX-6e deliveries in July 2026.
