BMW Opens China Pre-Sales for iX3 With 900 Kilometers of Range
At the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show, BMW put a price and a delivery date on its attempt to win back Chinese car buyers. The German automaker opened pre-sales for the China-exclusive long-wheelbase Neue Klasse iX3, an electric SUV, in three versions ranging from 269,900 yuan to 339,900 yuan. Mass deliveries are scheduled to begin in November.
The pitch is built around distance. BMW lists the iX3 with about 900 kilometers (560 miles) of range and an 800-voltage powertrain. The pre-sale price will match the final launch price, according to China Daily. CleanTechnica translates the range into about $40,150 to $50,565 in US currency.
BMW is showing two China-exclusive electric models as it tries to reverse weak luxury-electric-vehicle sales in the country. The pressure is structural: Chinese buyers have become more interested in electric vehicles from domestic producers, while sales of established automakers have been sharply drained. China was a major growth market for those companies before the shift to electric cars accelerated.
There is a more encouraging signal from Europe. CleanTechnica reports that the new iX3 has attracted 100,000 orders since it launched in 2025. But that result does not settle the Chinese question. The country’s electric-car market is described as intensely competitive, with many vehicles offering strong value for money, and the iX3’s deliveries have not yet begun.
So what changes for drivers and for BMW? Buyers in China now have a premium electric SUV with a stated 900-kilometer range, three price points and a scheduled November delivery window. For BMW, the immediate test is concrete: convert pre-sales into mass deliveries, then see whether a China-specific model can recover attention in the market where its earlier electric offerings struggled. The range and order figures are reported claims; the real measure will be how the SUV performs against local rivals once it reaches customers.
