Fairphone 6+ adds RAM and faster SoC
The casing remains almost the same, but Fairphone has upgraded what is under the glass: The Fairphone 6+ comes with a faster Snapdragon 7s Gen4 and more RAM. The updated version is therefore more of a sibling than a successor to the Fairphone 6.
The Snapdragon is an SoC, or system-on-chip, that combines key smartphone functions. More performance is intended to make the device more future-proof. Heise tested the Fairphone 6+ in the lab and in practical use; the available test excerpt does not provide details on individual measurements.
The special feature remains the construction: Many components can be easily replaced. This is complemented by comparatively sustainable manufacturing and support through 2033. This positions the 6+ less as a completely new phone than as a technical refresh of a repairable model.
So what changes in concrete terms? Buyers get more performance for €650, but have to pay €100 more than for the Fairphone 6. Those who want to retain the existing repairable design while also getting the faster chip and more RAM receive a clearly positioned alternative.
