Nio ES8 deliveries reach 140,000 after five-seat launch
The vehicle marking the third-generation ES8’s 140,000th cumulative delivery was handed over at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, 2026. It was the 140,000th delivery of the large electric SUV, and the latest 10,000 arrived in about 30 days. Deliveries began in September 2025, meaning the model reached the milestone after 335 days of deliveries.
The acceleration followed a change in the cabin. Nio launched a five-seat ES8 on July 9 and began deliveries the next day, adding a layout aimed at the large five-seat market to the existing six- and seven-seat versions. Those earlier versions had already passed 120,000 combined deliveries. The new configuration broadens the vehicle’s appeal beyond premium three-row SUVs and, Nio says, lowers the entry threshold for business and family buyers.
That shift is visible in the monthly data. ES8 deliveries briefly dropped below 10,000 in June as some consumers waited for the five-seat version, then returned above that mark in July. Nio cited China Passenger Car Association data showing 10,284 ES8 retail sales in July, ranking the model first among large SUVs and vehicles in China’s 400,000-yuan price segment. Nio also said the ES8 ranked first in cumulative sales in both categories from January through July.
Concretely, the five-seat launch adds another configuration of Nio’s flagship SUV for business and family buyers. According to data compiled by CnEVPost, the ES8 delivered 88,947 units in the first seven months of the year, accounting for 39.17% of Nio Inc.’s total deliveries during that period. Nio is also displaying its fifth-generation battery swap station in Chengdu, alongside vehicles from its Nio, Onvo and firefly brands.
