XPeng opens its car platforms and AI chip to global partners

In a single year, XPeng has put four models into production in Europe: the G6, G9, P7+ and latest G9L. On 14 October 2026, at the Paris Automotive Summit, chairman and chief executive He Xiaopeng went a step further. XPeng will open its own car technology to outside partners, through a business it calls XPENG AI Engineering.
What partners can take is broad. The offer covers vehicle platforms, electrical and electronic architecture, batteries, electric drivetrains and engineering tools. Partners can also reach technologies that XPeng names as its AI BOX, its Turing AI chip and a physical-world foundation model. XPeng says the approach lets partners jointly develop differentiated products while building their own technical capabilities.
The model already has a test case. XPeng's collaboration with Volkswagen Group combines XPeng's software and intelligent-driving capabilities with Volkswagen's vehicle engineering and testing expertise. XPeng describes the approach as built on complementary strengths, flexible collaboration and independent innovation.
The scale of the ambition is set out in numbers. XPeng invested approximately €770 million in research and development in the first half of 2026. For Europe, He Xiaopeng revealed a target of 500,000 annual sales by the end of 2030, according to BigGo Finance's report of the summit. He also acknowledged that production capacity is the primary constraint the company faces in that market today.
For a carmaker that wants to develop its own electric vehicles, the offer means access to XPeng's platforms and tools, while it builds its own engineering skills. Who benefits most, and when, remains open: the coverage names no partner beyond Volkswagen, gives no financial terms and sets no date for the first products.
