Luxeed RX opens pre-orders with 852 km range
A new electric SUV is taking shape in China with four LiDAR units, a 26-inch head-up display and a stated 852 kilometers of CLTC range. The Huawei-backed Luxeed RX opened pre-orders on August 20, putting Chery and Huawei directly into Xiaomi YU7 territory.
The RX is a five-seat coupe SUV designed by Werner Gruber, a former Ferrari designer who previously led the design of the LaFerrari and FXX-K. It measures 5,020 mm long, 2,007 mm wide and 1,585 mm high, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Buyers can choose a single rear motor producing 277 kW (371 hp) or an all-wheel-drive setup with 437 kW (586 hp) of peak power.
The hardware is the RX’s clearest technical statement. It combines four LiDAR units — laser sensors that build a picture of the road and nearby objects — with 38 sensors. One LiDAR has 896 channels, while three others use solid-state technology. The car also includes redundant systems for power, communications, perception, steering and braking, intended to support L3 autonomous-driving scenarios. CarNewsChina, however, classifies the current driving function as advanced L2 assistance: the driver must keep watching the road and remain ready to take control.
The pricing picture is unsettled. CnEVPost reports two versions starting at 299,800 yuan, with a higher version at 359,800 yuan. CarNewsChina reports a wider pre-sale range of 229,800–359,800 yuan. The latter range overlaps Xiaomi’s YU7, listed at 233,500–389,900 yuan, and the Voyah Passion S at 229,900–279,900 yuan. No explanation for the difference between the two reports is given.
So what changes for buyers? The RX adds another Huawei-linked option in a crowded premium electric-SUV segment, pairing long claimed range with a sensor suite that remains uncommon in mass-produced vehicles. But the car has only opened pre-orders and is expected to launch this fall; its driving system is still described as requiring active human supervision, and the range figures are manufacturer-provided CLTC ratings rather than an independent road test.
