BYD exports nearly 200,000 NEVs to Brazil in Jan-Jul 2026

Brazil almost occupied the center of BYD’s overseas footprint when the export map for January through July 2026 is laid out. Data from the Gasgoo Research Institute’s export database shows that BYD exported 198,507 vehicles to Brazil, including 99,505 battery-electric vehicles and 99,002 plug-in hybrids—one market, two powertrain strategies, and nearly an even split.

The trend was not limited to BYD. During the same period, Brazil ranked first among destinations for China’s new energy passenger vehicle exports, with 298,211 vehicles, up 154.6% year on year. Belgium and the UK followed with 255,681 and 231,198 vehicles, respectively. Overall passenger vehicle exports also expanded, with Russia ranking first at 524,428 vehicles and Brazil second at 408,393. Brazil led new energy passenger vehicle exports, with Europe and Asia-Pacific serving as the main growth engines.

BYD used different product mixes in different markets. It exported 76,473 vehicles to Australia, including 58,904 battery-electric vehicles—well above the 17,569 plug-in hybrids. The UK and Belgium received 53,361 and 52,022 vehicles, respectively, while plug-in hybrids accounted for 36,829 and 33,204 vehicles, respectively, exceeding battery-electric volumes in both markets. The Philippines, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, the United Arab Emirates and Thailand also entered the top 10, creating a pattern of “Brazil leading from a single point, a multi-market presence in Europe, and expansion across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.”

For consumers and automakers, the change is that going overseas is no longer simply a matter of shipping the same vehicle to more countries. Brazil is taking both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Australia is more oriented toward battery-electric vehicles, and the UK and Belgium show a more pronounced plug-in hybrid mix. Export data is already showing a strategy of configuring products around market demand. China’s new energy passenger vehicles are also gaining ground in traditional automotive markets such as Germany and Italy, with exports to Italy up 257.0% year on year and those to Germany up 181.9%.

But scale does not mean a market is already secure. Europe continues to face trade barriers, anti-subsidy investigations and competition from local automakers. Passenger vehicle exports to Mexico fell 24.8% year on year, while those to the United Arab Emirates fell 38.7%. The data, compiled by the Gasgoo Research Institute, records export volumes; the next stage of competition will extend beyond shipping numbers to brand building, overseas distribution and localized operations.
